Community Foundation announces 2019 Challenge Grant opportunity

We are celebrating our 55th Anniversary by helping nonprofit organizations in our primary service area build endowment. We know that endowment provides flexible, reliable funding to make nonprofits stronger, so our board has committed $75,000 from our Community Impact Fund to provide a 1:1 match to eligible nonprofit agency funds based on donor gifts to those funds.
Beginning April 1, 2019, donors can click the orange GIVE button on our website, find the eligible nonprofit agency they wish to support, and give $1,000.55 or more to the nonprofit’s endowment fund. If the amount you give ends in 55 cents, we will match your gift 1:1 up to $10,000 for any organization, until the match funds are claimed.
Eligibility Requirements
Nonprofit organization with 501c3 status, located in or significantly serving Scott and/or Rock Island County.
Nonprofit organization holds an agency endowment fund that broadly supports their mission at the Community Foundation with a minimum balance of $10,000 before the beginning of the challenge period—April 1, 2019. This challenge does not encompass scholarship funds.

Evaluation Criteria
Matching funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the match fund is exhausted. Gifts received after the available match dollars are claimed will be deposited into the nonprofit endowment of the donor’s choice.
Gifts of $1,000.55 or more made by a donor to an eligible nonprofit agency endowment fund during the challenge period (on or after April 1, 2019) will qualify for a 1:1 match.
Gift amounts must be given directly to the Community Foundation and end in “.55” to indicate their desire to be counted for the challenge match.
Because this Challenge Grant opportunity is intended to help nonprofits bring in new endowment resources, gifts must come from other donors, not from the organization itself.
Matching funds will be placed in the nonprofit agency endowment fund at the end of the challenge period.
Each eligible nonprofit organization can benefit from a maximum of $10,000 in matching funds, regardless of how many funds they hold at the Community Foundation.
