Apply for $175,000 in funding through Google.org opportunity in state of Iowa

Applications due May 17, 2019

Google has announced the new Google.org Impact Challenge for the state of Iowa, an opportunity for nonprofits in the Iowa-Quad Cities and across the state to apply for a share of $1,000,000 in grant funding, as well as Google training, for projects to create enhanced economic opportunities in Iowa.

Sherry Ristau, president and CEO of the Quad Cities Community Foundation, is serving as one of five statewide advisors who will help select five winners that will each receive $175,000 in grant funding.

“We believe that a thriving Quad Cities—and a thriving state—relies on true partnerships between organizations who are seeking to help our communities flourish,” Ristau said. “I am proud to serve on the advisory group to help grant these awards, and I look forward to seeing what the five organizations selected due to help make their communities stronger, healthier and resilient.”

Applications are open now through May 17, 2019 at g.co/iowachallenge.

The grant opportunity is looking for organizations with projects that accomplish the following four goals:

  1. Community Impact. Does the proposed project create economic opportunity in Iowa? Does it improve the lives of people in our community?

  2. Innovation. Does the project provide an unexpected solution to an unmet need? Is it a novel application of a time-tested idea?

  3. Reach. Does the project have ambitious goals and embody a big idea? Does it have the potential to scale directly or to serve as a model for other communities?

  4. Feasibility. Is the team well-equipped to execute on the project and do they have a well-developed and realistic plan? Is the organization’s leadership nimble and inspired?

After five winners have been selected, the public will have a chance to vote for the winner that will receive an additional $125,000 in grant funding to implement their idea.

This spring, Grow with Google criss-crossed the state of Iowa offering free digital literacy workshops to educators, job seekers, small business owners, and nonprofits. In that spirit, Google also announced the Google.org Impact Challenge Iowa (featured in the Des Moines Register  Quad City Times, and more!). For more information, visit g.co/iowachallenge.
