24-7 generosity

The Quad Cities Community Foundation and the Iowa 80 Truckstop are both celebrating their 60th anniversaries this year. Incredibly, Iowa 80 has been open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that entire time.

Today, the two organizations are working together through the Community Foundation’s corporate philanthropy program, which amplifies the generosity of local businesses and their employees.

“The Iowa 80 Truckstop is an iconic local landmark,” said Jean Moran, director of corporate philanthropy. “It’s also a family-run business that prioritizes giving back to the community. We’re excited that they’ve trusted us and our tailored corporate services to grow their giving.”

Iowa 80 Truckstop was opened by Bill and Carolyn Moon, who sold their house and just about everything they owned to launch the business. The stop has been a Walcott, Iowa fixture since its opening in 1964. Along the way, Bill saw an opportunity and founded the CAT Scale Company, which now has more than 2,200 locations.

The truckstop has always been a labor of love. Today, “The World’s Largest Truckstop” is a destination featuring ten restaurants, a unique gift shop, a barber shop, a chiropractor, a dentist, a wide range of driver services, a free museum on the history of trucking that features over 130 antique trucks and other memorabilia, and the annual customer appreciation event called the Walcott Truckers Jamboree.

Iowa 80 is proud to offer top-class service to professional drivers and travelers alike. They also take great care of their employees. Among their benefits is the opportunity to apply for funding to support their desired causes.

“We tell employees, ‘We’re interested in what you’re interested in,’” said Delia Moon Meier, second-generation business owner and senior vice president of Iowa 80 Group. “They use the funds for mission work, sponsored races, walk-a-thons, and many other causes. Our Community Foundation fund allows us to focus our giving in a way that matters to our employees and the community.”

“Studies show that customers and employees are drawn to businesses that do good in the world,” said Moran. “We have giving options for businesses of all sizes; we’re ready to make your giving easy and impactful.”
