Advisor’s Circle welcomes Tom Shie
The Quad Cities Community Foundation has welcomed Thomas E. Shie as the newest member to be inducted into the Advisor’s Circle, a distinguished group of advisors who serve their clients through inspired legacy planning and have assisted one or more clients in establishing significant charitable gifts during their lifetime through the Community Foundation.
“Our community—and local philanthropy—are stronger because of the work Tom does,” says Anne Calder, vice president for development at the Community Foundation. “His deep knowledge and dedication allow him to guide clients through the philanthropic process and through the building of a lasting legacy.”
A lifelong Quad Cities resident, Tom has practiced law for 30 years, including as the founder of Davenport-based Shie Law. It’s a family business that now includes his daughter, attorney Emma Shie. While Tom’s expertise extends to business law, real estate, and other realms, he is most passionate about encouraging clients to tend to their estate planning.
“You’ve worked all your life to accumulate your wealth,” says Shie. “Please don’t leave your legacy up to the state. Trust planning makes everything easier for your loved ones, and getting help with that planning will save you money in the long run.”
It’s never too early to start thinking about estate planning—anyone with assets should have some kind of plan in place. An estate planner can guide that plan, especially when it comes to leaving a legacy and making an impact through philanthropy.
“My clients want to make a difference in their communities, but that ambition can be overwhelming,” says Shie. “There is also a hesitancy about getting the money to the right place. They want it to stay local and make a big difference. That’s why I direct clients to the Community Foundation. They have the connections, history, and vision to connect my clients with the causes that matter to them.”
Anyone interested in having a better understanding of their estate and developing a plan to build a legacy should reach out to a trusted estate planner and the experts at the Community Foundation. “The best thing you can do is take that first step,” says Shie. “I promise it won’t be difficult. A 20-minute meeting can make a big difference.”
