What it means to create a legacy
by Sue Hafkemeyer
President and CEO
When I think about my legacy, I think about the people and causes that have shaped my life, the community that has supported me, the organizations that have made a difference, and the values I want to carry forward.
Like the many donors I have conversations with, I’ve spent years giving to the causes I care about.
And when I started thinking about the impact I could have beyond my lifetime, I made sure my plans included the Quad Cities Community Foundation.
If you’ve ever thought about what your legacy might look like, we’d love to have that conversation with you. Our team is ready to listen to you and learn how you want to shape a bright future for our region. Call us at (563) 326-2840.
The Community Foundation exists to support the challenges and opportunities in front of our community today and long into the future. So, when I have those conversations about legacy, the discussion is not just about financial giving. For donors, legacy is about ensuring that their generosity is guided by their values and that it supports the benefit of future generations.
But at the Community Foundation, we don’t just talk about legacy—we help donors make it a reality. I’ve witnessed firsthand how these gifts sustain the causes we care about most—whether it’s education, healthcare, the arts, environmental conservation, or social services.
That’s why my own planned giving includes the Community Foundation. And I’m not alone—the same is true for a number of our staff and board members. We believe deeply in the long-term mission of this organization and the long-term, transformative power of giving.
Planning your legacy doesn’t have to be complicated—with flexible giving options and guidance from the trusted professionals at your Community Foundation, you can create a plan that reflects your values and ensures a lasting impact for generations to come.
For more than 60 years, the Quad Cities Community Foundation has helped individuals shape a legacy through giving. The community we love today exists because of those who came before us and made the choice to pay it forward for good. Now, we all have the opportunity to do the same.
